Safety rules

Participants should ensure to have the following available before any confrontation :
-  a charged phone
-  a first aid kit
-  the presence of at least one person having a first aid certificate during the confrontation.
-  every strike must be applied in a controlled way, under penalty of exclusion from combat.
-  All participants undertake to respect the safety rules adopted by the collectif Bouvines, under penalty of a one-time or permanent exclusion.

1-Fighters

Fighters wishing to participate in personal confrontations or mixed within the group must :
- be of age
-  have an insurance
-  present physical condition sufficient to avoid the risk to endanger or cause injury to others,
-  not be under the influence of alcohol or any narcotic drug product. A soldier considered too tired or under the influence of a product harmful to his or her reflexes or lucidity may be denied any struggle by the organizers of the collective.
- exercise control and composure, have experience in handling their weapons. The fighters too inexperienced or considered dangerous by officials of the collective will be refused any armed confrontation, individual or collective.
-  remove bracelets, earrings, rings, even hidden, because of the risk of injuries.
-  wear clothes in line with those described in the specifications. Hands have to be protected by mitons gamboisés ou des mitons (te laisse faire là) or thick leather gloves. Wearing a protective shell (pas trouvé mieux, mais bon pas sure du tout que ça s’appelle comme ça) or tibia protections is allowed, provided they are invisible.
-  for riders : to have enough practice of riding and be validated by the most experienced riders of the collective. They are personally responsible for the conduct of their mounts during the fighting. Before the fighting, officials of various companies are to ensure the level of control of their members. It is recalled that the internal regulations of the collectif Bouvines 1214 supersedes the ones of the formed troops. The collective will in no way be held liable for an injury sustained in combat. Thus, each soldier is personally responsible for his actions and should therefore be able to refrain from fighting if risk (tiredness, etc.).

2-Weapons

For security reasons, daggers and other short weapons are prohibited in confrontations, as for any other weapon not usually used in combat. Officials of the group may at any time verify the conformity of weapons intended to be used. A general control of weapons will be held at the beginning of the meeting or before a collective commitment. Weapons of all types (swords, spears, axes, etc.):
-  must have been manufactured specifically for secured combat by skilled craftsmen or manufacturers (not real hatchets, no shovels turned into spears, etc.)
-  must have rounded ends with a curve at least equivalent to that of a coin of 1 euro cent. The edges should be thicker than 2 mm  show no trace of welding. Burrs must be removed from the blades before each confrontation.
-  Shields must not have any nail or rivet too prominent.

3-Confrontations between groups

The confrontations between groups will be conducted on a fenced field. If presence of public, battles will take place at a safe distance from fences, at least 5 m. During the fighting referees are involved:
-  they are designated by the collective in proportion to the number of participants in the battle, identified by a distinctive sign and wear head protection.
-  they ensure that the combatants are properly protected, that their weapons are in accordance with the regulations, and they are not intoxicated, tired or aggressive.
- they may at any time stop a fight in case of one of the fighters not respecting the rules of the collective, not holding his blows properly, proved dangerous in one way or another or in case of injury, etc. (the penalty ranges from warning to permanent expulsion from the battlefield) .
- they may decide to end the battle by a sound signal transmitted in advance to all combatants, (horn, whistle) in case of major injury to a fighter or a situation deemed too dangerous, (horn, whistle, etc.) Their decisions are not subject to any discussion during the battle.
- every hit must be brought under control and without intent to injure. Blows to the head and face are completely banned. The shots in the back can only be held on protected areas and should be particularly mastered. The sword thrusts are strictly prohibited above a line situated at armpit level, and on any area of the body unprotected. In the case of fighting with the spear hold in one hand and a shield, it is held under the arm and not on the shield (iron shall in no case back to the face of the enemy).
- no hit can be carried on a horse, except under stunts duly repeated between the protagonists. In case of uncontrolled reactions of a horse, the battle is suspended by the referees until return to calm of the animal or the exit from the battle field from the knight who could not master his mount.
-  If a security post can be achieved, it will be arranged within reasonable distance of the site and reported to all participants.

Civilians linked to the collective (such as water carriers) are held inside the field but away from the fighting to avoid accidental weapon projection. They shall not pass through the field during fighting. A fighter seeking water will walk away from the fight and go toward them. A briefing is held before and after each battle to discuss any problems or punish irresponsible or dangerous behavior.

4-Individual confrontations

Individual confrontations, outside the context of the battle, are subject to a less strict regulation, especially between combatants particularly experienced or accustomed to working together. However, they are organised on a practical and stable field, and distanced from eventual viewers, public or members of the collective. In case of combat deemed too dangerous, officials of the collective reserve themselves the right to end the fighting. The fighters will protect at least their hands and head. Wearing the maximum protection possible is however advised. The moves are mastered and carried as to not intent injury. The blows/hits toward the face are completely banned, even mastered. Blows to the head can be allowed or not depending on the choice of the fighters, but must always be particularly mastered. Both combatants shall agree mutually on whether to allow such thrusts or not.
