Ulrich_Moscow - greetings from the East

Messagede Ulrich_Moscow » Lun Jan 06, 2014 8:19 pm

Greetings, collegues!
Let me introduce myself and my company-friends.
Well, my name is Ulrich, as you have already noticed ;) , but my friends also know me as Nikita (Yes, it's a russian male name, don't confuse with TV-series. ;) ))) We coulld meet few years ago on another forum - La guerre du Moyen Age. May be some of you heard something or came in Moscow in last june - Times and Epochs.
So, our company is in Moscow, Russia, the main goal is the reenactment of the Order of the Temple and Western Europe in the second half of the XIIIth century. We've already visited all russian fests. For three times we visited polish fests in Czersk. And now it's time to go far. We'll be glad to visit France and such a good fest like Bouvines.

Well, I think some photos? If you don't mind.

Indeed? Wow, great! Hope you enjoyed!))) ;) What do you think about it? I'd like to ask you to send your opinion about that fest in PM or post it here. Lads who organized it are friends of mine and I suppose they will be pleased to receive your opinion.

But if don't confuse non of the french took part in battles...

I'll make a pdf of the article (so, I'll be able to send it to Daria and Darya !)
I still have to work most of the pictures (it's a disaster :ouin: )
Then I'll put them online :D
(But the few that are ready are on my FB page)

Hello Ulrich,
Wellcome here !

Just a question about your pics : why these leather chest protections ? Where from comes this idea ?
These kind of protection is known for knights, under chainmail, but I've never heard for infantrymen

On the Maciejowski Bibel perhaps...

Oriabel a écrit:A man driving a "chariot" seems to have one kind of those protections

How can you see on a manuscript the nature of the materials ??
It should be a common interpretation of this item I suppose.

Yeah, Oriabel is right. That picture was used as a basement. Due to the headstone of sir MArshall in London Temple the system of leather straps was designed and constructed.

About material.. well, there were loads of discussions and some of us found some sources (including french). In example Chanson d'Antioche:

Moult fu riches qu'il li a chief mi
Son poitrail lui laca qui fu de cuir bolis.

The "poitrail" in this extract is the breastplate of the knight and not of the horse.

Then The Roll of Purchases for the Tournament at Windsor Park

Item. ij Crest & j Blazon & una galea cor & j ensis de Balon
de Rob'o Brunnler xxxiij galee de cor p'c galee xiv

Maciejowski Bibel.

It seems to me this lad is not a knight... If he were a knight he'd have a mail beneath his curie.

No it´s not a knight. And nothing proves that it is leather (except by crossing with sources concerning knights).
But it could be leather actually ...

Thanks for the explanations. :D
